On this page you can monitor all the changes that are made to the U2start website. Changes were logged after v2.0.
 v2.9.0 (august 17, 2008) |
- U2start is renewed, it's the first major upgrade since the release of v2.5 a year ago.
- The layout is improved, there's a new design for the top menu, a new background and some other colors involved.
- A lot of minor fixes, updates and additions are processed all over the site with this upgrade.
- There is a new footer bar with random information like bootleg or fan of the month.
- The donate option is back and can be found on the help and info pages.
- There are some crew member movements and additions.
- Bootlegs can now be viewed by each individual leg of the relevant tour.
- New: bootleg reviews, users can now write, change and read bootleg reviews.
- New: bootleg of the month, every month there will be a select bootleg chosen as our bootleg of the month.
- New: fan of the month, every month there's a fan of the month with an accompanied interview.
- The 'more audio' department never really took off so we have removed it to free up space. Soundchecks have now been added as a download option to the bootleg page of the relevant show.
- The photo pages have been updated, there are now more statistics (popular, large and most viewed photos) and there are some general statistics.
- New: a fancy photo uploader, users can now upload up to 25 photos at once at high speed to our server.
- New: photo favorites, users can now add and remove photos to their favorites.
- New: buddies, you can now have your very own 'buddy list' that allows you to have a list of your friends saved in your profile (handy for sending a quick PM).
- PM section improved a lot, now comes with navigation, multiple delete options and bookmarks.
- New: an overview of members who celebrate their birthday and online guests at the forum homepage.
- Profile rewritten, extra option like a 'biography' option featured too.
- New settings: disable receiving U2start newsletters and jumping directly to the last page of a topic through the frontpage.
- The text above forum quotes 'originally posted by' is now clickable and leads to the specific posts of the related user.
- New: an overview of topics where an user has posted in, with a direct shortcut to their latest post in each topic.
- Fixed: topics where you posted in, and others posted in, are now sorted on your last post date, not the last post date of the topic.
- New: Video Youtube checker, videos that are not available anymore at Youtube are automatically removed at midnight.
- New: A lot of new crew member features, statistics and additions (crew only).
- The forums are involved more, bootleg of the month, poll discussions are now always linked to a specific topic.
- Forum images are now automatically resized and clickable, there is also an additional message to encourage and support in resizing images.
- Forum URL's are now automatically shorten in where they are too long.
- New: On the post reply, topic and edit post pages there are now BB-buttons to easily use BB-code.
- New: You can now easily insert special characters through the "insert a special character" link in the forums.
- New: You can preview posts before you post them on the post topic, reply, edit post and PM pages with the preview button.
- New: Several RSS feeds are available all over the site, you can get an overview at the special RSS page.
- The lastposts.xml data file for hottopic is now realtime instead of updated each minute.
- The four previously unreleased songs that came with the Boy, October and War remaster albums are added to our songs section with lyrics.

- In the last two and a half months since v2.5.0 a lot of small bugs have been fixed, spelling mistakes
are corrected and other small things have been improved or fixed.
- Support for the news feeds of U2exit.com in the U2start headlines.
- Improved and extended user, site and forum statistics for the management pages (crew only).
- A few new crew member additions.
- Fixed a 'back-button' problem on the photos page.
- Fixed the search page, now better and more relevant search results.
- Support for hottopic through the new lastposts.xml data file. With this the U2start version raises to v2.6.0.
- Option to embed YouTube videos in forum posts with the [youtube]-tag (October 8).

- U2start is renewed, it's the first major upgrade since the release of v2.0 from 10 months ago.
- The layout is redesigned, it's not entirely changed but it's now more one part instead of
several parts.
- A new header image has seen the daylight, the U2start logo is renewed as well as the favicon to
mark the major changes.
- New: Submenu's below the header to create space for extra menu items, this presents itself
on the bootleg and the forums pages.
- New: U2start is viewable in multiple languages, we're starting out with the English, Dutch,
Italian and Spanish translation but hopefully some more languages will join us in the future.
- New: The more audio department, from here users can upload and download ZooTV Phone Calls,
performances with fans and soundchecks.
- New: The photo department, a place for high-resolution U2 photos where users can upload and
download photos easily.
- You too: The poll is rewritten and now completely in AJAX which gives the possibility of voting for
a poll and see the results without the need to refresh the page.
- New: Private messages, users can send each other private messages who cannot be read by other users.
- Bootlegs: The bootleg pages are very much improved, the rating system is renewed with now
10 possible ratings instead of 5 to create the option of a compromise on questionable ratings.
If users disagree about 3 or 4 stars we can make it 3,5 stars. There is also a new value, named
"type recording" which can contain values like "soundboard" or "audience". The system itself has also been
improved on other sides like the option to display as much sources as we'd like.
The other new thing is that you can sort the bootlegs per tour on quality or number of downloads,
now you can easily search for the most popular or highest rated bootlegs of your favorite tour.
- Videos: The video page was getting too big with over 500 videos, we divided them now in multiple pages
sorted by era (eighties, nineties etc.). The viewing of videos doesn't go through YouTube anymore but
through a window inside U2start.
- Songs: More songs have been added to the songs section like the majority of the b-sides.
- Forums: Users now have an option to add topics to a list of bookmarked topics or add topics to a
list of subcribed topics. Whenever they do so, people will receive an e-mail if there's a new reply.
- New: Help pages, pages with a FAQ, the new house rules, the crew, a changelog and more information
on anything a U2start visitor should or maybe would want to know.
- A lot of bugs have been fixed and a lot of small improvements were made.
