Performance:
The band is on the greatest mood I ever seen. Not Zooropa Tour, nor War Tour, nor Lovetown, nor Vertigo... Joshua-Madrid is the perfect example of HOW can be a U2 concert. The band knew that it was their 1st concert on Spain, and they responsed greatly. They were on a great mood, and they seemed to be having fun on the stage.
Pubblico:
Attendance was 125,000 people. Awesome. Biggest show until 1997. There were only 95.000 scheduled tickets to sale, but a ***** promoter sold 30.000 more. That could have been a massacre with all that people, but it was eventually fine. And how fine was it... Biggest concert so far in Spain, and 2nd biggest on U2's history...
Sound:
Not the best show I ever listened, of course. Although, the sound is OK for a 20 years old not-scheduled-and-even-amateur recording. It lacks some clarity on the high end, and a bit of Adam and Larry is sometimes lost. Anyway, the sound is just OK in my opinion. You are able to stand 2 hours of this stuff...
Generale:
When the Where The Streets Have No Name organ sounded over the 125k people on the stadium and lights went up, Bono appeared with a soccer balloon and shot it over the crowd. The first point of the night was amazing. After that, (just at the end of I Will Follow - which was awesome too) Bono gave some gifts to the mad spanish crowd. "Este es un lugar GREANDE, pero U2 y vosotros somos MUCHO MAAS grandes!!" ("This is a huge place, but U2 and you, we are MUCH bigger!!" ***Crowd went nuts***...
I'm not commenting every single detail, because it'd be so long. The whole show was spreaded with pearls. The Edge was also joking with some audience members, and Larry went off twice of the drumming-kit to wave and salute the audience (this anecqdothes are obviously not in the recording, but my parent was there and he knows it). Great.
The Electric Co was another great point. Bono climbed up to the stage once again (for the last time) and there (over 30 meters up the crowd) holded (for the last time! What a unique moment) the U2 White Flag. Awesome. After that (crowd went nuts again) he sung the best snippet done ever into that song: Break On Thru (To The Other Side). My father's throat went of on that moment .
And of course, Spanish Eyes was the absolute highlight of the night. As the first performance of a song, it was raw and not pulished, but how great it was. The crowd loved it and sung along (although they didnt know the song! how weird!).
And ''40", the closer song. Probably best version of the song ever. Amazing. Crowd thown the few energies they had left on this song. Amazing. My father once told me that people went out of the stadium singing out loud the "Hooooowww looooong... To sing this song?", and that verses were heard for hours at some points of Madrid... So great!

Performance:
First Spanish show ever, and first performance of Spanish Eyes (fittingly). As always, Shine Like Stars appeared - always nice to hear.

Sound:
Decent sound. About as good as some of the other European JT shows. Not too bad.
Generale:
Este es un lugar muy grande, pero U2 y vosotros somos mucho mas grandes! (something like "This is a large place but U2 and you are bigger!" ... 115 000 people here so a pretty big crowd (compared to 60 000 - 80 000 in recent times).
Always a great show where U2 and Spain are concerned. Excellent job to whoever chose it.

Performance:
The Best performance of Unforgettable Fire I've ever heard, really. This night Bono nailed it, those falsettos were fine! One of the best renditions of Exit, BTBS, The Electric Co and In God's Country. And above all - Spanish Eyes, that rocked. And I Mustn't forget 40 usually when this song comes I stop the listening already, but this time I didn't do it, this version was really worth a listen
I was also surprised by SBS with slow intro, I didn't know it was played this way on 2nd leg...

Sound:
It wasn't bad, but sometimes I had a feeling that it was speeded up, or the band was just playing so fast?.A bit raw recording with strong presence of crowd gave an idea of how amazing atmosphere must had been there. That's what I like on these 3-3 and half star audience recordings. Only thing with which I wasn't content was skip at the beggining of October.
Generale:
This show had so much Energy! amazing. Whole band at their best. I enjoyed every song. Top Notch performance. Great choice Sergio.

Performance:
I have listened to this show many times before as I say and bar a few standout moments it doesn't differ an awful lot from other JT shows. Streets was a little better than its awesome usual self in 1987 and that was definitely down to the crowd and Bono feeding off their energy. The end of Still Haven't Found was nice with those 'Oh way Ohs'. Everything else up until Spanish Eye's was Joshua Tree normality I felt. Spanish Eye's has to be the hilight, how they nailed that song on it's debut performance and how the audience reacted to a b-side a lot of them probably hadn't heard was awesome. '40' was thee best version i've ever heard. Simple as that.
Pubblico:

Sound:
Extremely raw recording and a lot higher in quality than I remember from previous listens. All instruments could be heard well enough and this recording did a decent job in capturing the enthusiasm of the crowd which is always welcome from me. Just don't turn the volume up too loud or else things go tits up. Maybe some audiophile could clean this one up slightly in the future, who knows. 5 stars is a little bit generous I think, 2.75 for me.
Generale:
Mostly standard Joshua Tree performance with the 115,000 strong crowd, first visit to Spain and Spanish Eye's giving it the edge over most. The sound is very listenable though not brilliant. If you have quite a few JT European boots already then try this one out for size, you won't be dissapointed.

Performance:
Very good. It's JT tour, so you know this and some songs go on to be done better (Bullet for me was not so good on this tour), some not so well ever again.
I picked out Streets, Electric Co. The UF, Spanish Eyes and "40" as standout performances. Not that the other songs were bad; they're all top-drawer, but these were especially good.
The band all feed off the energy of the huge crowd that others have mentioned. Bono especially, and he's in fine voice.
Pubblico:

Sound:
Decent audience recording with an outstanding crowd make this a 3-star in my book. Some bits are better than others but it's very listenable, especially given the performance...
Generale:
A worthy addition to any bootleg collection, there are better JT boots that combine better sound quality with equal performance (see Gerard's review for ones from this leg; there's the Denver's of this world too also), but it was the biggest crowd ever for U2 at the time and that gives a little something to it.
It will stay on my iTunes and, for a while, my iPod too.

Performance:
Great! Rosemont is great, Tempe is awesome, Paris is lovely, Edinburgh is fantastic (not to forget Denver)....this one is too. Some great performances of several songs like TUF, SBS and 40. Also BTBS and ISHFWILF were great, in my opinion. The debut of Spanish Eyes fits perfect with this first Spanish show.

Decent. 3-star is a good rating for this show.
Generale:
I adore the JT era, together with Lovetown and Elevation. So any JT show gives me shivers...but this one really was special. The band had a lot of energy and definately won the love of the amazing crowd.

Performance:
It's ok. Not the best performance ever, I think some would agree, but it's not the worst ever. Bono seems to be drifting in and out of the songs, really annoyed me when he kept grunting throughout, but the encore made up for some of that. As did Bad. Some unnecissarily fast tracks in there though, really sped up. Overall it's ok, like all performances, it has it's good and it has it's bad. Well, not ALL performances. There are some exceptionally good ones out there.
Details on individual songs:
1) Where The Streets Have No Name - Well, no matter where it is, this intro always seems to raise the hairs on the back of my neck. Such an elegant song. The crowd seem in a great mood and that's what you'd expect as this is the first time U2 have been to them. Very good musically so far. The sound quality isn't bad either. I have to admit though, they aren't Bono's best vocals ever for this song, doesn't seem to have any of the emotion you'd expect in this song, only at a few points does it sound like a real classic WTSHNN. He seems to be tailing some of the lines off and going really high. Sort of like "where the streets have no nameARGH!". Nonetheless, a great way to kick off the night.
2) I Will Follow - Now, let it be known, I'm not a huge fan of 'I Will Follow' live, so the versions have to be exceptional to really please me. So far so good though. I seem to be finding myself singing along with the crowd though. In my head of course. I'm liking this. I'm still wanting more.
3) I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For - Whatever Bono said, it seemed to have pleased the crowd. This intro is different, usually we get a nice melodic intro from Edge, unless I can't hear it. Good vocals, good bass, good drums. Can't really hear The Edge chiming out. Still a good performance though, crowd are definitely playing their part by the sounds of it.
4) MLK - Never really understood why this song is played at number 4. It's a very slow track and doesn't really follow the up tempo start we've had. It's about MLK, why not put it near Pride? Or the song before "40"? Hmm...I still like the song very much, it's peaceful and a nice little track.
5) The Unforgettable Fire - I recently praised Joshua Tree performances of this song because of the great use of the e-bow by Edge and the all round manner in which it's played. The intro I like is "There are some fires you can't put out..." because that's the way it feels to me, it's a timeless masterpiece. This performance seems a little bit faster, especially the piano part. Bono's falsetto has been better, I must admit, still good though. Would be nice with the album version's ending.
6) Bullet The Blue Sky - I get the feeling that this song should be somewhat 'intimidating' when played live. Strong vocals, howling guitar, and a dark bass/drumline. This version...is a bit timid if you ask me. The music is good, but the vocals ruin it for me. Unfortunately. Doesn't really seem emotional if you ask me. singing from his head, not his heart. A bit too fast in some parts too.
7) Running to Stand Still - Please don't ruin it Bono.....Yes! He seems to be singing from his heart. nice intro anyway. Such a beautiful song. This has immediately erased Bullet the Blue Sky from my memory. I've heard better performances, I think I have anyway, I'd imagine there were better performances out there, still good though.
8) Sunday Bloody Sunday - Whoa-oa-oa-oa-oa oa-oa. I'm liking this slow intro. The crowd are also liking this song too. This followed by a stellar performance from Larry. Not a bad performance all round. Very speedy towards the end, which is kinda cool. Edge's guitar does sound a little throaty though.
9) Exit - Such a haunting intro. What was that Bono? You're not Mexican. At least his vocals are good on this track. Except for these silly grunts etc. Love how it speeds up half way though...then dies. Then speeds up again and kind of hits a peak. The music is great.
10) In God's Country - For a moment I thought it was Pride. The chucking at the start lol. Never mind. I love this song. The guitar is sounding peachy. Vocals are good. Larry and Adam are doing well. Good all round perfromance, it must be said.
11) The Electric Co. - I'm a massive fan of this live, so they better perform. No Cry? Ah well. Stop grunting Bono! Ruining the song. Where have the crowd gone as well? Good performance so far I must say, except, again, the grunting. Oh, hello, the crowd have their drinks. Very good solo from Mr. Edge, albeit shortlived. Sure, I've heard better performances of this live, but it's alright. Would've been better with a Cry at the beginning and perhaps a little less grunting. Don't know whether I would scrap this fro a Trip Through Your Wires though. I think, right there, I would've preferred a little harmonica.
12) Help - This would've followed better from 'Trip' than 'Electric co.' I think. Good little excerpt though.
13) Bad - I'm liking the intro. Bono's vocals are at the best they've been all night I reckon. His "woo woo"'s are a bit funny though lol. Very good performance, possibly the best of the night. The crowd have found their voice again. Though for 115,000, is it? They could be better. Not just on this song, but a few others, they've seemed a bit quiet. Could just be the recording though.
14) October - This would go well near 'The Unforgettable Fire' in my opinion. It's a such a haunting track I think. The piano is anyway. I think it'd be nice as an instrumental as well myself, though Bono does do an acceptable job here. Definitely doesn't seague well into New Year's Day though.
15) New Year's Day - This sounds a lot less powerful, it's more upbeat, doesn't have the howl from Bono at the start, which is what I think of when New Year's Day is mentioned. That "yeaaaaahhhhh-eaaahhhhh" is just great. But none tonight. It's very fast, a bit too fast for my liking. As with many of the songs tonight, they've been quick.
16) Pride (In The Name Of Love) - Another dedication to MLK, could've had just the one. Sounds like a typically good perfromance. The crowd certainly know the words. Yeah, it's a sound performance. No issues here for me.
Encore:
17) Party Girl - Part time! This song, for me, serves no other purpose than to get the crowd going. And listen to them, they're up for the encore. and so am I. Just an ace song in my opinion.
18) Spanish Eyes - Finally, this is what I've been waiting for. I love it! Perfect upbeat song to follow Party Girl. For the first performance ever, I think they do a good job. It's very different from the studio version. It's very good. Very good interplay with the crowd too. Partay!
19) With or Without You - This is sounding very good. Bono is crucifying it lol. Very good performance throughout I think. Lovely little snippets at the end as well.
20) "40" - Eight minutes long? Great. I love this live. Why? Because the crowd just go on forever as the band slowly disappear. It's a catchy tune to sing along to, always has been. The refrain is great, because how long do we sing this song? Forever. I'm liking this performance very much. Fitting end to the night to be fair.
Pubblico:
Start off great, die down a bit in the middle/toward the end of the main set, then come back alive again at the end. Certianly in full voice at the start and end, but to me, doesn't sound like 115,000 fans there.
Sound:
It's not shabby, you can definately hear what's going on. There are some moments when you can't properly hear The Edge. Like ISHFWILF for example. There are also some part when the audio is almost screeching in your ear, but other than that, it's ok sound.
Generale:
I'm going to give it.... 7.5 out of 10. for reasons mentioned above, Bono's grunting, his lack of emotion is a few songs, the extremely upbeat perfomances of New Year's Day, The Unforgettable Fire etc.
And there you have it. After spedning an hour and a half in Madrid, you finally have my pennies worth.

Performance:
Outstanding, really remarkable.
Pubblico:
A spectacular audience as well...nothing to say that hasn't been said by the other reviewers. It's a really really great crowd!
Sound:
The reason I actually still LOVE this bootleg even with the sketchy sound is because before I was introduced to some of the truly high quality recordings on this website, this is what a bootleg SOUNDED like to me. That gritty, pitchy, clearly trasnferred from some sort of cassette sound. So quality-wise, it really is only a 3 or so. But emotionally, the sound should carry an old fashioned, nostalgic, and in a sense, true feeling.
Generale:
A 5 star show for me that I can't say I'll ever forget. This one will get revisited time and time again.
Highlights: (Since there were many, I'll post the absolute-best)
-The Unforgettable Fire
-Sunday Bloody Sunday
-Bad
-Party Girl
-Spanish Eyes
-With or Without You
-40
